Dear Photography Educator,
It is with great pleasure that The National Society of Arts and Letters, Boca Raton/South
Florida Chapter announce their Art of Photography Juried Competition to be held on
Saturday March 1, 2008 at the Florida Atlantic University.
The competition is open to all qualified photographers, ages eighteen through twenty nine.
Professional photographers are not eligible. In addition to cash prizes of $1000, $ 750
and $ 500, the first place winner will have the opportunity to attend a photography
workshop of his/her choice at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre.
We have included an application, contestant procedures and information to be posted on a
bulletin board. Please duplicate them for your students.
Contestants are asked to send the signed application form, two 5x7 photographs of
themselves to Mrs. Lucy Barre, Chairman of this event for the South Florida Chapter of
NSAL, and postmarked no later than January 4, 2008.

The National Society of Arts and Letters Art of Photography Competition
The National Society of Arts and Letters announces a juried competition and exhibition for
photographers to be shown at the Florida Atlantic University in the Student Union Gallery
on Saturday March 1, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Regional jurors will select the works and
name three award winners. The adjucators will be three persons who are nationally and
internationally respected in the field of photography.
Eligibility
Photographers should be 18 through 29 years of age. Professional photographers are not
eligible.
Fees
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $15 for up to five photographs per applicant.
Personal checks should be made payable to the National Society of Arts and Letters Boca
Raton/South Florida Chapter.
Entrance Requirements
Along with the entry, Contestants must submit:
-signed application form.
-two 5 x 7 photographs of themselves with their name on the back of each
-Proof of citizenship (Birth certificate or
passport).
United States citizenship not required.
Chapter winners, first, second
and third must attend the Red Rose Dinner, which will be Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the
Brooks Restaurant in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Awards will be presented to the winners at
this time. Competition winners are guests of NSAL.
Types of Work Eligible
Eligible for entry are: monochromatic and color, film and digital photographic prints, and
any image or images essentially derived from photographs, provided the original source was
taken by the entrant. Three-dimensional works or any works not conforming to the above
specifications are not eligible. Works must have been created since January 1, 2005.
Entrant may submit a maximum of five works. Please indicate “top” of the print
and number each to correspond with entry form. WORKS MUST BE TITLED AND LABLED.
Prints
Submissions may be in the form of slides, CD/DVD and/or unframed prints, Monochromatic
and/or color, any size, titled and clearly labeled with your Name/
Title/ Size/ Medium. A total of five prints may be entered. Please indicate
"Top" of the print and number each to correspond with your entry form.
On the entry form print your name, then add your signature on the same line. We can
accept slides, prints and/or CD/DVD for entry. Enclose a self addressed envelope for
return of prints, slides or CD/DVD.
A check may be enclosed for return shipment of your framed photographs if you are unable
to attend on March 1, 2008.
Framing Requirements
The images accepted for exhibition must be matted with 16 x 20 inch or 20 x 24 inch cream,
ivory or white over mats with window openings and framed in accordance with the
professional standards. Use silver or black aluminum frames. Works not presented in these
standard sizes will not be considered by juror. Entrants are encouraged to use tissue
overlays for protection during handling. All artwork should be ready to install and be
properly identified with the provided label securely attached to the back of the work. The
Juror’s decision is final. No substitutions will be granted.
Delivery and Pick-Up
Original framed artwork accepted for exhibition must be delivered Friday February 15 or
Saturday February 16 at Florida Atlantic University, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida,
33431 and picked up no later than Saturday March 29. Artwork will not be released to any
person other than the artist without written authorization from the artist to The National
Society of Arts and Letters.
Responsibility
All possible care will be taken in handling works submitted for the jury, but neither the
regional NSAL Chapter nor Florida Atlantic University can assume liability for any loss or
damage.

March 1.... Reception from 1:00 to 3:00 pm
March 29.... Pick up artwork between 4:00 and 6:00 pm
