The National Society of Arts and Letters’ objective is to encourage and assist promising young artists through arts competitions, scholarships and other career opportunities. Next year’s big-money competition is in dance. Individual chapters may be sponsoring other competitions in other disciplines.

The National Career Award Competition 2012 is in musical theatre. It is open to musical theatre contestants who are at least 18 and no older than 29 years of age on 18 May 2012. The top award is $10,000, with several other awards available. Awards will be presented on May 19 in El Paso, TX. Winston Scholarships are available in art and voice for promising artists between the ages of 16 and 22. Check out the rules at scholarships. and find the contacts for individual chapters at chapters.
As much as $20,000 will be awarded in May 2012, $10,000 in art and $10,000 in voice.
These competitions are the "heart" of NSAL. They afford the opportunity for young people throughout the United States to be heard and seen by professional critics, managers, producers, teachers, the media, and patrons of the arts.
All competitions are adjudicated by nationally known men and women in the arts. A Master Class is conducted by renowned judges for the National Career Awards Competitions. Opportunities for one-on-one sessions and individual critiques are also encouraged. Meet our panel of judges.
Since 1944 the aims and objectives of NSAL have been to:
• Discover talented young artists at the beginning of their careers.
• Award excellence by granting awards for competitions in art, dance, drama, literature, music, and musical theater.
• Create opportunities for career development and expression in literature and the visual and performing arts.
• Promote a greater public interest in the creative arts.
